Justin Bieber: The Genius of Spin October 19, 2010

An article from Ragan’s PR Daily talks about how Justin Bieber, the 16-year-old heartthrob is a PR genius. Well of course!!!! He has a legion of fans and is one of the most popular people in the world and he’s a teenager. And having a good public relations team is certainly a part of that. But here’s why:

Last week, reports surfaced of Bieber hitting a 12-year-old while at a laser tag center. This could have been devastating to his reputation, because after all, the preteen set is the majority of his fan base. Yet the PR extraordinaires for Team Bieber managed to spin the bad publicity in Justin’s favor. And they always say that there’s no such thing as bad publicity, as if Justin Bieber needed any help in the publicity department. They talked about how the kid called Bieber a gay slur and that he was simply standing up for himself when being bullied.

While what exactly happened at the laser tag center is all heresay, the PR people for Justin Bieber sent out a response in defense of their client in record time. So Justin Bieber, give your PR people a raise. They may have saved you a lot of trouble!

This is such a funny blog post and yet so TRUE! Justin Beiber has such a huge fanbase that any little thing he does is scrutinized. This laser tag incident could have definately hurt his fan following. However, his public relations people turned the situation around in a miraculous way! Using the brace of “gay slurs” and “bullying” was very smart. Since gay rights has recently been placed in the category of hate crimes, the timing couldn’t have been better. Also, bullying has been a major issue with teens today. High school and middle school students are committing suicide and hurting others due to being bullied. The angle that Beiber was defending himself is very clever. I agree with the statement the Beiber should give his PR people a raise! Along with a yacht, a new car, a massage, jewelry, etc…

Justin Bieber is the social media prince. He used YouTube to share his talent with the world. Eventually, his videos caught the attention of some important people and he landed a record deal. Now, he helps maintain his fan base with his incessant tweets, often thanking his fans, promoting events and other celebrities, and asking fans questions. Unfortunately, he’s not very popular with boys his age. Based on my perception of Justin Bieber, I think that his statement regarding the incident is factual. He’s a friendly, outgoing kid who seems to get along with everyone. My brother is 15 and he’s mentioned that he thinks JB is gay. Obviously, he’s jealous of his success and all the attention he gets from the ladies. It’s not far-fetched to think that another male teen would call him the same name, even to his face.
